About Us

The Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe
WHO WE ARE

We offer a welcoming and supportive community for Episcopalians in Europe, strengthening our congregations through resource sharing, and offering unique experiences and insights to the broader Episcopal Church.

We seek to welcome curiosity, celebrate diversity, walk the talk of the Way of Love, and help every member feel connected and part of a bigger network.

THE CONVOCATION OF EPISCOPAL CHURCHES IN EUROPE is a jurisdiction of the Episcopal Church with churches, mission congregations, and specialized ministries spread over eight countries in continental Europe.

We are a part of The Episcopal Church, the branch of the global Anglican Communion that is (historically) based in the United States of America. The Episcopal Church is present in 17 countries and 110 dioceses. In Europe, our Episcopal churches serve an impressive number of people of different nationalities, as well as local nationals attracted to the appeal of Anglican worship. Congregations within the Convocation vary in size from fewer than 100 members in the mission congregations to more than 1,000 at the Cathedral in Paris. Find an Episcopal Church community in Europe, here or here.

The Convocation is in the jurisdiction of The Most Rev. Sean Rowe, the Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church. The Rt. Rev. Mark D. W. Edington is the Bishop in Charge of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe. The Episcopal Church has had a bishop resident in continental Europe for over fifty years. Our cathedral church, The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, is located in the center of Paris.

For over two centuries, the parishes and missions of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe have ministered to English-speaking people in Europe (at first US-American expatriates) and, in more recent decades, began serving others for whom English is often not their mother tongue. Today, the Convocation is a multinational, multiracial, multilingual, and multicultural communion within the European Union and beyond.

Our stated mission represents our desire to be faithful to God’s mission for the work of our churches in Europe:

We are a welcoming community that knows God loves all people — ‘no exceptions.’ We celebrate our diversity of languages, cultures and nations. Worshipping together, we rejoice in reaching out to the world and becoming One in Christ.
