Lay Preaching Education
The Convocation offers Lay Preacher Training through an excellent course created by the Episcopal Preaching Foundation. Its aim is to prepare effective, confident, and passionate licensed lay preachers for the Episcopal Church.
The one-year course combines regular self-study and in-person meetings with our trainers, The Rev. Michael Rusk and The Rev. Scott Moore. Curriculum materials in video and PDF document form are accessed online through a dedicated Google Classroom platform. More of the work is undertaken by self-study which is supplemented by fortnightly 90 minute zoom meetings. There is also an annual Preaching Retreat. In 2025, 13 students completed the course. Completion leads to a Certificate from the Episcopal Preaching Foundation and the possibility of being licensed by Bishop Mark as a Lay Preacher in your local context. Please contact the Rev. Michael Rusk (rector@emmanuelchurch.ch) if interested in attending the next course (to be run from January 2026).
Those who completed the course stay in touch through Slack and they share sermons or resources they like, and in general form the first Alumni Group.
