European Institute of Christian Studies
Lay Preaching Education
The Convocation offers Lay Preacher Training through an excellent course created by the Episcopal Preaching Foundation. Its aim is to prepare effective, confident, and passionate licensed lay preachers for the Episcopal Church.
The one-year course combines regular self-study and in-person meetings with our trainers, the Rev. Michael Rusk, the Rev. Scott Moore, and Megan Preston Meyer. Curriculum materials in video and PDF document form are accessed online through a dedicated Google Classroom platform. Much of the work is undertaken by self-study which is supplemented by 90-minute Zoom meetings. There is also one residential preaching retreat (2026 date to be determined). Completion leads to a certificate from the Episcopal Preaching Foundation and the possibility of being licensed by Bishop Mark as a Lay Preacher in your local context. Please contact the Rev. Michael Rusk (rector@emmanuelchurch.ch) if interested in attending the next course, which begins 2 February 2026.
