The Commission on the Ministry of the Baptized (COMB) exists to help you explore one of life’s deepest questions: What is God calling me to do?

Many of us think “ministry” means ordination as a priest or deacon. In truth, the Church’s most vital work flows through the ministries of lay people—in your parish, your community, and the wider world. Perhaps you’re called to licensed lay ministry as a Pastoral Leader, Preacher, Eucharistic Minister, or Catechist. Perhaps you’re sensing a different calling and simply need space to listen.

How COMB Works

COMB is made up of four lay and four ordained people, appointed by the Bishop. We meet monthly online to support people at every stage of discernment. Each spring and fall some twenty spiritual seekers gather in retreat— in Lastra a Signa, Tuscany last year, Bad Wimpfen, Germany this spring and Strasbourg, France in November. Together with respected clergy facilitators, at these retreats we share morning and evening prayer, chapel services, and time for deep listening.

How to Connect

COMB hosts two open annual events, which commission members are also encouraged to attend:

Are We Looking for You?

We’re currently seeking a thoughtful, prayerful lay person to join COMB. Members commit 2–4 hours monthly.
Whether you’re exploring your future quietly or are ready to take a step, reach out to your local ministers or to COMB for further discussion.

Your calling matters.
